N-able, Worcester – Internal Space Transformation

P1030154

Description

JUST MCP were assigned to transform and divide an existing space within a learning center, creating additional classrooms and flexible learning areas to support the centre’s growing number of sessions.

The centre provides specialist education and therapeutic support for students aged between 11 and 25 who are unable to manage within a mainstream education environment. With demand for additional sessions increasing, the existing open space needed to be carefully adapted to create a number of dedicated, comfortable and practical learning environments.

Our works were designed to maximise the available floor space while ensuring each new classroom had the appropriate lighting, electrical facilities, privacy and acoustic separation required for a busy educational setting. The project involved installing approximately 98 m² of metal-stud partitioning, creating a series of new classrooms within the existing space.

Glazed Windows & Natural Light

To ensure the newly created classrooms remained bright and welcoming, we installed six internal window modules, including two larger windows in the larger rooms. The windows incorporated 6.4mm laminated glass and were designed to be as large as possible, allowing natural light to flow through the space.

Doors & Finishes

The new rooms were fitted with five oak veneer doors, featuring solid-core construction and 150 x 1500mm vision panels. Each door was completed with black frames and matching furniture, creating a consistent finish throughout the newly formed spaces.

Electrical & Lighting Installation

The electrical layout was redesigned to accommodate the new classroom configuration.

The window wall was divided into three classrooms, with each room receiving:

  • Two double electrical sockets with RCBO protection
  • Four LED panels
  • One emergency lighting fitting
  • Independently switched lighting

The end wall was also divided into two additional classrooms, each receiving the same electrical and lighting specification.

Within the open-plan area, the existing light sensor switching was reconfigured to suit the new layout. Cable containment above the ceiling was also upgraded to safely supply the new classrooms, with steel basket containment installed to comply with current requirements.

Additional Works

Alongside the main partitioning and electrical works, JUST MCP also completed a number of additional alterations to ensure the space worked as a complete and practical learning environment.

These included:

  • Installation of approximately 5m² of dwarf walling, with a cill board matched to the existing wall and glazing
  • Taping, filling and painting to match the existing finishes
  • Construction of a new nib and bulkhead to form an opening for a new door
  • Installation of approximately 5m² of seamless glass above the dwarf wall
  • Installation of an additional oak veneer door with light grey frame and furniture
  • Installation of a wall-mounted air conditioning unit for the quiet room
  • Provision for relocating an existing air conditioning cassette within the main room
  • Refitting and patching of the ceiling following the air conditioning relocation, including replacement ceiling tiles where required

Creating More Opportunities for Learning & Support

The completed transformation has allowed the learning centre to make significantly better use of its existing footprint, creating multiple dedicated rooms where previously there was a more open-plan arrangement.

By carefully considering acoustic separation, natural light, lighting levels, electrical requirements and the overall feel of the environment, the new layout provides a series of practical spaces that can be used for different educational and therapeutic sessions.

Customer Satisfaction

The project was a great success, and the customer was extremely happy with the finished result. The newly divided space has provided the centre with the additional rooms it needed to accommodate more sessions and make better use of its existing facilities.

For JUST MCP, this was a particularly rewarding project as the completed works will directly support the centre’s ability to provide a more suitable and flexible learning environment for young people who require an alternative to mainstream education.
